The Bardill Family
The Edward M. Bardill Scholarship in Photography was created as a memorial to the work and life of Ed Bardill by the Bardill Family, Lu Bardill, Linda Bardill Daetsch, Mary Bardill Olson and Carol Bardill Veum.
Edward M. Bardill, 76, of Port Charlotte, passes away March 7, 2001. He was born Sept. 17. 1924, in Durand, Wisconsin. He then moved from La Crosse to Florida.
Ed retired from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1988 as an associate professor of photography. During his 20-year career, he helped design the photography workshops that featured nationally ranked photographers such as John Sexton, Cole Weston, Mary Ellen Mark and others. Ed’s photography was significantly influenced by the late Ansel Adams, whose Yosemite Valley workshops he attend in the late 70’s. John Sexton’s La Crosse workshops continued to invigorate Ed’s zone system image-making through the later years of his teaching career.
Ed’s favorite subjects for his distinctive black and white images were Midwestern and Western Landscapes, and in retirement, Florida lighthouses.
He was a member of the Photo Arts Group of Charlotte County, Port Charlotte Shriners Club and American Legion Post No. 110 in Port Charlotte. Ed graduated from Northland College in Ashland, WI., with a teacher’s degree, and earned a master’s degree from University of Wisconsin-Stout. He served in the Army during the World War II in Europe.
