Gerda J Hayter

Through the generosity of the Gerda J Hayter Living Trust, Gerda desired to create two scholarship funds in her daughters’ names, The Jane E (Hayter) Scholarship and the Mary Elizabeth Hayter Scholarship for the outstanding education that they both received at UW-L.

Jane (Hayter) Keily received both a B.S. and an M.S. in Physical Education from UW-L. Her education prepared her well to teach physical education for over forty years. Her love of learning encouraged her to continue to learn, grow and research new and innovative ways to enhance curriculum and ensure lessons were meaningful for her students. The importance of being active and sharing her love of physical education was an integral part of her student’s education. It is our hope that the funds provided will support students in pursuing their dream to be a physical education teacher who supports students in being active for a lifetime.

Mary Hayter received her undergraduate degree in political science from UW-L. Her degree provided her an excellent opportunity to pursue a variety of occupations both in politics and in the medical products field working to develop, influence and interpret medical policies. Through these experiences, Mary rose to the
executive ranks in the medical products field. Being able to help and support others was Mary’s mantra. She would hope that future students could learn and become successful in ways that they too can help others. With the funds provided, it our hope that students will be supported in their pursuit of political science degrees that allow them to realize their potential to impact public policy.
