Cloyce Campbell

Cloyce Campbell grew up on an Iowa farm and worked his way through the University of Iowa College of Commerce during the Great Depression. After completing his MA, he continued graduate studies, taught college, and married his wife Florence, before beginning service in World War II in the Army Corps of Engineers (Europe and Pacific).  After the war, he returned to finish his Ph.D and teach.  He was also called to active duty during the Korean War and remained in the Army Reserve for years.  In 1956 he became a Professor of Economics at UW La Crosse, the first business program hire at UWL.  Before his retirement in 1981, he supported the development of business programs at UWL in many ways — beginning with the development of an economics major, other business majors, chairing the Department of Economics for several years, and then was instrumental in the development of the School of Business which became the College of Business Administration.  He retired from teaching in 1981 but remained very active in community organizations and on his beloved Coulee Region farm until his passing at age 96.
