Myrtle Dahlen Johnson

Myrtle (Dahlen) Johnson was born in Coon Valley, Wisconsin, and graduated from Onward Rural Elementary and Central High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Myrtle attended and graduated from Stout Institute with a degree in Home Economics.

After teaching Home Economics at the high school level for a time, she returned to graduate studies at Cook County Hospital in Chicago to specialize in dietetics. Her first tour of duty was at St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin, for several years followed by several more years at Cook County Hospital. In 1951 she and her husband Bennett E. Johnson, moved to Arcadia, California, where she spent 20 years as dietician at a hospital in Pasadena, California, until her retirement in 1971. After retiring, she moved back to La Crosse, Wisconsin, where she lived until her death in 1998 at 93 years of age.

Her desire was to have a scholarship fund to help young students fulfill their desire to receive an education in the health field
