Mary Catherine Batten
Mary Batten was a 1933 graduate of La Crosse State Teachers College. She received a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education.
Mary was active on campus and participated in the Phy Ed Club and Buskin Club. She was involved in numerous drama productions. During her senior year, she and 24 other students, alumni, and faculty members were initiated as charter members of the Alpha Psi Omega National Honorary Dramatic Fraternity.
She spent her career as a teacher in the Milwaukee area and upon her retirement established this scholarship. Mary Catherine passed away in 1997.
Impact
She established this scholarship in 1978 with a gift of $35,000. This scholarship now supports two awards each year totaling $8.000. That is the power of an endowment!
