Hardy Chan
Hardy Chan was an international student at UWL who graduated in 1970 with a degree in chemistry. After earning his Ph. D. In Biochemistry from UW Madison and spending four years at the National Institutes of Health, he entered the US Pharmaceutical industry. In 1997, he moved to Taiwan and started his own pharmaceutical company. He retired in 2014.
From faculty emeritus Dr. John Tonnis’ Facebook (Chan’s professor at UWL), he noticed the Chemistry Department had grown quite a bit from his days and noticed that the Department provided scholarships to students with financial needs. Hardy worked with Dr. Aaron Monte and the Foundation to establish two endowed scholarships: The Hardy W. Chan and Sons Endowed Scholarship Fund in Chemistry and the Richard C. Chang Memorial Scholarship. Richard was a classmate of Hardy’s at UWL. In addition, Hardy supports two undergraduate research fellowships in Chemistry.
Hardy is pleased to support the institution that had supported him with a full scholarship throughout his undergraduate study.
