Gabe & Cecilia Manrique

Gabriel & Cecilia Manrique established this scholarship in 2018 in honor of Cecilia’s retirement from UWL. Gabriel and Cecilia Manrique have been professors for more than 35 years.

Cecilia retired from UWL in May 2019 after her more than 30 years of service in the Department of Political Science/Public Administration. Her specialties included politics in developing areas (Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East), as well as Women and Politics, Immigration, and Computers in the Political Science Classroom. She served as chair of the Political Science Department and was the chartering advisor of the Golden Key International Honour Society to which she also became President of the International Leadership Council and a member of the Board of Directors.

Gabriel retired in 2019 after 30 years at Winona State University where he was chairman and professor of the Department of Economics He taught in the areas of macroeconomics and international economics. He was formerly the globalization specialist for Fastenal Company, a multinational industrial corporation based in Winona, MN. Among his areas of interest are: the comparative analysis of economies, government procedures particularly as they relate to businesses, and the economic and political environments for foreign investments.

The Cecilia & Gabriel Manrique Scholarship will alternate between students in Golden Key or majors in Political Science and Public Administration.

Impact

The Cecilia & Gabriel Manrique Scholarship is a permanent endowment fund and the first award was made for the 2019-20 academic year. The Manrique legacy will continue at UWL forever. Thanks, Cecilia, for your dedication and support.
