Douglas Baker

The Douglas Baker scholarship was established as a general scholarship for all students at UWL in 1995. Douglas played on the UWL Eagles Football team as an offensive guard. He played three consecutive years, 1992-1994. According to his team, “Doug was a true friend to his teammates and a strong, solid motivator for the team.”

He unfortunately passed before he was able to participate in the NCAA III Championship game, but his team, family, and friends knew he was there in spirit. Some of his teammates put his number on their helmets to make sure he was still in the game with them. He was committed, hard-working, and loyal. His parents started the fund after Douglas’ tragic death. His family wanted his memory to live on by helping students and keeping Doug’s spirit alive.
