D. Russell Wartinbee

This memorial scholarship was established by the family of D. Russell Wartinbee in 1978. “Doc” Wartinbee taught music, social studies, and civics in the La Crosse and Clintonville schools for nearly 40 years. He also served eight years in the Wisconsin Assembly. He passed away in 1977 at the age of 74.

The Wartinbee family has a long history at UWL and in the La Crosse community. “Doc” was a 1923 graduate and his late wife, Helen, a 1925 graduate. Many generations of family members have attended and graduated from UWL. The family continues their generous support of this scholarship which is awarded to an education major.

Impact

This endowed fund has been awarding scholarships for more than 40 years and will continue forever. The legacy of the Wartinbee family continues at UWL.
