Alice DeBower
Alice DeBower taught at UWL from 1945 to 1973. Miss DeBower played an important part in building the Recreation and Parks Management Department. She established the Recreation Major’s Club and was the group’s adviser from 1950-1972. She developed internships through the state and organized many community recreational programs, including Songfest, dances, game nights and card parties. DeBower was active in state and national parks and recreation associations. In 1991, she was recognized by the College of Health, Physical Education and Recreation as a recipient of the HPER Excellence Award. Miss DeBower provided funding to support an endowed scholarship and an endowed graduating senior award.
